What is Bircher Muesli?

The original Bircher muesli consists of oat flakes, grated apples, lemon juice, nuts and sweetened condensed milk. It was created at the beginning of the 20th century by Dr. Maximilian Oskar Bircher-Benner, a Swiss doctor.

We have reinterpreted and refined the original recipe. This resulted in our delicious Urkorn Bircher Muesli and the distinctive Verival Bircher Porridge.

Bircher muesli preparation

To prepare the classic Bircher muesli, mix 50g oat flakes with 120ml water or milk and let it soak in the fridge overnight.

The next morning, grate an apple and add it to the soaked oatmeal along with a squeeze of lemon juice. Add a handful of chopped nuts and, if desired, some honey or sweetened condensed milk. Stir everything well and enjoy your fresh, nutritious Bircher muesli.

You can optionally refine it with yogurt, fresh berries or other fruits.
