What is Matcha?
Matcha is currently very much in vogue as a tea drink. The green powder is Japanese green tea! But with matcha, the whole tea leaf is used for production, which releases even more ingredients. Matcha has been consumed as a meditation drink in Buddhist monasteries for over 800 years. Matcha is considered the noblest and most valuable Japanese green tea variety because only a few people are able to produce the delicious powder.
Matcha plantations are very rare and only a few people know the secrets of producing the green tea. Matcha tea leaves grow slowly in shaded plantations, to be processed afterwards. To drink, Matcha is poured over with water (hot or cold) and then whipped with a bamboo whisk. This creates a fine, creamy, green liquid that is widely regarded as a source of strength!
Since you consume the entire tea leaf with Matcha, you also get to enjoy the tea's complete ingredients. The caffeine provides a pleasant energy kick and harmonizes perfectly with the L-theanine, which is found exclusively in tea. Amino acids alleviate the stimulating properties of caffeine, creating the perfect balance: invigoration and relaxation at the same time. So why not try matcha instead of coffee at breakfast?

How is matcha made?
As already mentioned, only a few people can produce matcha at all. An elite club of tea farmers produces the tea in special shaded plantations. Shortly before the harvest, the tea is shrouded in darkness. In the dark, the matcha plant compensates by producing more chlorophyll, the leaf builds up more amino acids, which later results in a delicate, sweet taste.
The harvest of the fresh young leaves begins in April. These are transported as quickly as possible to small tea factories for further processing. In the factories, the leaves are treated with steam and then dried at up to 180 degrees. From the tea factory, they are returned to the processing plant. There, the leaves are checked for quality and then combined to make “Matcha”.
The final step in production is grinding the tea leaves. This is done by hand using granite mills that can only manage 40 grams per hour. That's about one can of matcha. This is another reason why matcha is a rare premium product.
These 5 health benefits of matcha porridge
We've now covered the basic traits and benefits of matcha, but what about porridge? Why is porridge so healthy? And why should you eat it for breakfast?
1. Porridge keeps you full for longer
One of the most obvious benefits is that porridge keeps you full for longer. So if you have porridge for breakfast, you'll be less hungry throughout the day. This means fewer food cravings and fewer snacks between meals!
2. Matcha porridge is full of vitamins and minerals
Oats are rich in the B vitamin thiamine and the minerals phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, as well as calcium, iron, copper, selenium and manganese. It's no coincidence that oats are also called the local superfood. With so many different vitamins and minerals, it's almost impossible to say no!
3. Healthy fatty acids and proteins in matcha porridge
6 percent fat and 12.5 grams of protein per 100 grams – oats shine here! So if you start the day with porridge or overnight oats, you'll already be starting with healthy fatty acids and plenty of protein. Particularly suitable for athletes.
4. Porridge aids digestion
The dietary fiber in porridge is essential for healthy digestion. The fiber binds water in the stool, keeping your digestion healthy. The beta-glucan in oats is also responsible for healthy intestinal flora.
5. Porridge lowers cholesterol and protects against disease
Porridge is particularly suitable for people with cholesterol problems! The beta-glucan, which also promotes intestinal flora, is also responsible for lowering cholesterol levels. Oats consumption also helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases and diabetes! So if you want to take care of yourself at breakfast and perhaps prevent one or two illnesses, you should definitely include oats in your breakfast.
Why you should add matcha to your breakfast
Matcha is often touted as a coffee substitute. But you can't say that exactly, because the caffeine in coffee works differently than the caffeine in matcha. Caffeine in matcha is much more tolerable and even has a healthy and lasting effect. Matcha is also invigorating and is considered a real pick-me-up.
With its many nutrients and antioxidants, as well as amino acids and L-theanine, matcha is a real energy kick in the morning and helps you start the day healthy and alert. The green tea is also vegan, lactose- and gluten-free. It also contains proteins, vitamins, trace elements and healthy fatty acids.
So if you want to start the day with a healthy diet and lots of energy, you should definitely try our Matcha Porridge! It combines the best properties of both foods and can help you get the day off to a perfect start.
