In the cold season, the selection of fresh regional fruits and vegetables is unfortunately very sparse. But what you can almost always rely on are apples.
Since you can store them well, you can buy them from regional cultivation almost all year round. And this local fruit is so versatile in the kitchen that you can't run out of recipes so quickly.
Combined with the Verival Bircher Urkorn Muesli, you can bake full-fledged power bars from apples. Not only do they taste delicious, they also keep you full for a long time and are packed with healthy ingredients. So a perfect healthy breakfast or snack.
What is Bircher Muesli?
Bircher Müsli is the oldest and first muesli ever. It was named after the Swiss doctor Maximilian Oskar Bircher Brenner , who recommended it to his patients as part of a healthy diet. Originally, it consisted of grated apples, oatmeal, and milk.
Over the years, a wide variety of variations and reinterpretations have developed, which are served for breakfast worldwide. In addition to ancient cereal flakes, apples, and hazelnuts, our Verival version also contains sultanas, figs, and almonds.
Why are apples so healthy?

Who doesn't know the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" and as in almost every way of life, there is a lot of truth in it. The apple is a real vitamin bomb with vitamins B1, B2 and B6 , which ensures the activation of your metabolism and the regulation of blood fats and cholesterol.
In addition, the regional fruit variety contains a lot of potassium , a mineral that is especially important for athletes to provide the muscles with the necessary energy.
4 tips for preparing the bars

- Grated apple: A grated apple comes into the bar mass. It's best to leave the peel on and rub it with it. It contains the most fiber and vitamins. Grated apple is also wonderful as a topping for porridge.
- A pinch of cinnamon: Cinnamon not only smells and tastes great, but it also has lots of good qualities. It stimulates circulation and digestion. In addition, it has a hypotensive, antispasmodic, and concentration-promoting effect. This makes it one of the most important Ayurvedic spices.
- Sugar-free enjoyment: The apple birch granola bars rely entirely on vegetable sweetness from fruits, maple syrup, and agave syrup. If you want, you can replace the agave syrup with honey.
- Make applesauce yourself: Applesauce is totally quick and easy to make yourself. For the bars, simply peel, quarter, and core two apples. Then halve the quarters again. Simmer with about 200 ml of water and a splash of lemon juice (so that the apple pieces do not turn brown) on medium heat for about 15 minutes. When the fruits are soft, pass finely with a blender and allow to cool. Weigh 50g of must for the bars. The remaining applesauce can then be kept in the fridge for a few days. It also tastes great with porridge, cereal, and yoghurt.
What is the best way to store the bars?
These cereal bars are nice and juicy because of the apples. However, this also means that they should only be kept at room temperature for a few days. If you want to make them in stock, you can easily freeze them. Simply take the desired amount out of the freezer the night before and enjoy it fresh for breakfast the next day.
